Web design and web development
A website consists of two parts. Web design is what you see: the look, the structure of the pages, how the brand comes across. Web development is the logic behind it: placing an order, displaying a catalogue, a form that ends up in your system. The right design differs per company, product and sector — a template that works for everyone does not work really well for anyone.

Why quotes for a website differ so much
Two quotes for "a website" can differ by a multiple and still both be right. The difference almost always lies in what is and is not included.
